The ancient town of Nursia (now Norcia),
protected by her medieval walls, offers delightful tours
with its churches and ancient residences. The town of
Norcia is of very remote origins, even during the period
of the Punic Wars the town played a strategically important
role. In the 1500s Saint Benedict founded the "Benedictine"
order and is known as being the Patron of Europe. Inside
her city walls, many precious architectural treasures
are safely preserved for both visitors and locals to
enjoy. Some of these treasures are: the gothic church
of San Benedetto, the Renaissance period Cathedral,
and the Castellina- a four-sided stone sculpture carved
by Vignola.
There are many possible itineraries:
from splendid green hills to "città d'arte."
The town of Cascia, with the Sanctuary of Saint Rita
is at only 15 minutes distance, the very ancient city
of Spello, the abbey of Saint Eutizio a Preci, The Church
of the Madonna Bianca di Ancarano, and extremely well
preserved medieval hamlets, like that of Vallo di Nera.
Assisi and St. Francis Basilica:
The Roman Forum and the medieval city; Spoleto comes
to life during the summer with the "Festival of the
Two Worlds" (Festival dei due mondi); Foligno-the Quintana
festival, the medieval village of Trevi and the Fonti
del Clitunno.
